Marketplace And Revenue Splits
Define the long-term payment complexity of an app marketplace.
Purpose
Define the long-term payment complexity of an app marketplace.
Prox OS should not promise automatic global payouts at the beginning. Early builder incentives should use visibility, founder access, credits, curated listing, future marketplace priority, and manual bounty or sponsorship before automated revenue share exists.
Future Capabilities
- Creator/app revenue share.
- Marketplace split payments.
- App-level entitlement.
- Refund, dispute, and chargeback handling.
- Regional creator payouts.
- Tax/VAT handling and reporting.
- Marketplace app policies.
Provider Options
| Option | Potential role | Best stage | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stripe direct | Simple early paid access or manual invoice-adjacent validation. | Selective paid early access. | Does not solve marketplace payout, tax forms, global VAT, or creator splits. |
| Stripe Connect | Marketplace payouts and split payments. | Marketplace beta or later. | KYC/AML, supported countries, disputes, refunds, chargebacks, sanctions, onboarding, and accounting complexity. |
| Stripe Managed Payments or MoR-style model | Merchant of Record evaluation for global B2C, EU VAT, digital subscriptions, or marketplace operations. | Later evaluation after real paid demand. | Provider policy fit, app marketplace constraints, fees, control tradeoffs, and migration complexity. |
| Paddle-like Merchant of Record | SaaS/digital product tax handling and global payment simplification. | Later when global paid SaaS is real. | Higher fees, less marketplace flexibility, policy review. |
| Regional providers | China/APAC local rails. | Regional strategy only after local entity and support posture are clear. | Local entity, compliance, support, reconciliation, and fraud operations. |
Stage Table
| Stage | Money movement | Builder incentive | Required maturity |
|---|---|---|---|
| v0.1 public preview | None by default. | Visibility, founder access, credits, and roadmap input. | Waitlist, privacy posture, and product signal. |
| Invite-only beta | Manual early access if needed. | Manual bounty, credits, and curated listing. | Written scope and manual operations. |
| Curated builder program | Manual sponsorship or revenue-share experiments. | Scoped bounty and future marketplace priority. | Creator identity, contribution records, and app review. |
| Marketplace beta | Limited automated payout evaluation. | Revenue share in supported regions only. | KYC/AML, tax, refunds, chargebacks, fraud review, sanctions review, and app security review. |
| v1 marketplace | Automated payout where supported. | Mature marketplace program. | Public payout policy and operational support. |
Non-goal
Do not implement marketplace money movement before app permissions, app review, creator terms, platform governance, tax posture, fraud review, support operations, and supported-country payout policy are real.
