Competitive Landscape
This document maps Prox OS competitors, references, and product learning areas
Purpose
This document maps Prox OS competitors, references, and product learning areas by module. It is not an acquisition claim, investor recommendation, or roadmap promise.
Prox OS should compare against different products for different surfaces: desktop runtime, command surface, data vault, marketplace, local runtime, agent control, developer workflow, and privacy posture do not share one competitor.
For deeper Cmd+K positioning against Raycast, Alfred, Spotlight, Linear, Superhuman, VS Code, and Slack-style command surfaces, see Command Surface Competitive Analysis.
Overall Competitor Map
| Product | Category | What it owns in user mind | What Prox OS should learn | What Prox OS should avoid copying | Prox OS differentiation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airtable | Structured database and interface builder | Flexible tables, views, automations, and business data apps. | Familiar data modeling, templates, and lightweight interfaces. | Becoming a team database clone. | User-owned data interfaces inside OS Spaces. |
| Alfred / LaunchBar / Spotlight | Local command and launcher | Fast keyboard-first launching, search, snippets, and workflows. | Zero-lag entry, fuzzy ranking, muscle memory, fallback search, and compact command UX. | Local-only command assumptions and opaque workflow permissions. | Browser OS command surface that can summon apps, Spaces, agents, and permissioned actions. |
| Arc / Dia | Browser and AI browsing layer | Browser-native workspaces and AI browsing. | Spaces, context, tabs, browsing flow, and AI surface patterns. | Becoming only a browser skin. | App/agent/data runtime above the browser tab model. |
| Baserow | Open database and data ownership | Open-source Airtable-like databases. | Ownership posture, open data, and structured app interfaces. | Treating database rows as the whole product. | Data-sovereign apps and agents over portable sources. |
| Cloudflare / Vercel | Runtime and deployment platform | Deploy, edge runtime, previews, and developer trust. | Deployment metadata, previews, and developer onboarding. | Hosting every workload too early. | BYO deploy plus OS Space registry and app/runtime layer. |
| Dify | RAG, workflow, and agent backend | Agent workflows, RAG apps, and backend orchestration. | Workflow composition and tool integration. | Letting backend workflow UI define the whole product. | Visible OS surfaces, permission review, and data-sovereign runtime. |
| Figma / FigJam / tldraw / Excalidraw | Canvas and visual collaboration | Visual thinking, design collaboration, and embeddable canvases. | Direct manipulation and multi-user visual surfaces. | Turning every workspace into a canvas. | Spaces can include visual tools without being only a design canvas. |
| GitHub / GitHub Apps / Actions / Marketplace | Developer distribution and automation | Code identity, collaboration, automation, and app marketplace. | Repo identity, app submission, Actions-style evidence, and marketplace trust. | Replacing source hosting. | GitHub-native apps and repos become visible OS Space resources. |
| Linear / Jira / Atlassian Marketplace | Developer workflow and marketplace | Issues, project systems, and enterprise app ecosystem. | Fast workflows, app review, marketplace trust, and extension models. | Enterprise process weight too early. | Personal/small-team AI desktop with visible agents and app runtime. |
| LobeChat | Model switching and chat UI | Personal multi-model chat. | Provider switching and plugin mental model. | Becoming a chat-only product. | Chat is one agent surface; Cmd+K and apps make agents visible. |
| Notion | Workspace, docs, databases, templates | Flexible workspace and template ecosystem. | Templates, docs/platform/data blend, and sharing. | Becoming another document workspace. | OS runtime where apps, windows, data, and agents are first-class. |
| Obsidian | Local-first knowledge base and plugins | Local notes, graph, markdown ownership, and plugin power. | Local-first trust, extensibility, and user-owned data. | Requiring expert setup for all value. | Browser-first OS plus future local companion for owned data. |
| OpenClaw | Self-hosted action-taking personal agent | Action-taking agent with chat integrations. | Self-hosted agent ops and local action patterns. | Ambient authority over user tools. | Visible scopes, budgets, manual approval, and audit logs. |
| Puter / OS.js / daedalOS | Browser Web OS and cloud computer | Web desktop, files, apps, and cloud computer metaphor. | Windowing, app launcher, and persistence. | Toy desktop nostalgia. | Data-sovereign agent/app runtime, not only a nostalgic desktop. |
| Raycast | Launcher, commands, extensions, snippets, and AI helpers | Keyboard productivity, polished command previews, and extension store. | Command speed, extension discovery, compact density, result metadata, quick actions, and marketplace trust. | Treating commands as only local productivity utilities or hiding automation authority behind extension convenience. | Spatial summoning: summon, generate, open, connect, and execute with Space context, permissions, audit, and data-source wiring. |
| Replit / CodeSandbox / StackBlitz | Online IDE and dev environment | Browser coding, previews, and developer sandboxes. | Templates, previews, and developer flow. | Building a full online IDE too early. | Manifest + GitHub-first submission + OS runtime aftercare. |
| Salesforce / Agentforce | Enterprise CRM and agent ecosystem | Enterprise customer workflows and governed agents. | Permissioned enterprise agent posture. | Enterprise CRM scope and procurement-first product. | Personal/small-team visible agent desktop first. |
| Setapp / WebCatalog / Slidepad-like products | App launcher and app spaces | App bundles, lightweight app containers, and quick switching. | App bundle packaging and web app ergonomics. | Subscription app bundle as the only value. | Spaces, data, connectors, agents, and auditability. |
